Frequently Asked Questions
• How long are the rides?
Public Sails are about two hours, dock to dock. Charter Sails may be longer.
• What about weather?
The Captain reserves the right to cancel up until one hour prior to the sail due to bad weather and/or
Small Craft Warnings. We will make every effort to reschedule your sail.
• Will there be other people on board?
Yes, Public Sails are just that; open to the public at large. We take up to thirteen (13) passengers, but will go out with four (4). Bookings are on a first come, first served basis. You can reserve your booking by paying in advance.
• What can I bring on board?
Typically, you should consider bringing some of the same (legal!) things you might bring to the beach or any outing or picnic. Snacks, beverages, food (if you feel you will get hungry), sunblock (non-spray type), cover-up, hat, glasses, camera
and anything else you feel you’ll need; but please limit them to what will fit in a bag or backpack. Please wear
non-slip shoes. Very young children must be able to fit properly into a USCG- certified life vest. If you have a
special request, please let us know, and we will try to accommodate you.
• How soon prior to my departure time should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 1/2-hour prior to departure. This will give you time to check in, prepare for boarding and to use
our land based facilities. And please remember...there is no restroom/head aboard Priscilla !
• I own a vacation rental on Fire Island. Can I hire Priscilla to take out my guests?
ABSOLUTELY. However, we are not permitted to enter every harbor on Fire Island.
Please call or email to discuss.
• How will I know if my sail is cancelled?
We’ll contact you by phone or text message. Be sure to give us contact information and how to reach you “last minute”.
• What should I do if I must cancel my trip?
The LI Maritime Museum reserves the right to cancel a sail due to unsafe weather conditions and will refund
you deposit in full. If you must cancel, we ask that you do so as far in advance as possible. Rescheduling
must be done within 7 days for another date within the current season, or forfeit deposit.
