the United States Life Saving Service
of Long Island

L.I. and its barrier beaches are rife with tales of storms
and shipwrecks, lifesavers and pirates.

This exhibit focuses on the true stories of the 18th &19th century pirates who actually sailed our waters, local shipwrecks and the members of the US Life Saving Service whose commission it was to protect life
and property along the coast.
