Volunteer By the Bay

The Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville is now seeking new part-time volunteers to help with its mission to preserve Long Island’s nautical past. Volunteers are being sought for different positions at the museum:

Educational Assistants

The museum offers hands-on programs for students and adults, as well as a maritime summer camp. The museum seeks volunteers to assist with administrative duties, background research for projects, and help with education programs.

Visitor Services

The visitor services department interacts with the public during museum hours, special events and in the museum’s gift shop. Volunteers are needed to assist with public events (both in the museum and off-site), conduct tours of the museum and engage with the public in the galleries.

Boat and Maintenance Services

Volunteers with life-long building and trades experience can provide crucial support to staff and boat-builders by assisting with the maintenance of the collections and the restoration of traditional watercraft and models. Specific knowledge or experience may be required for some activities. Our historically significant buildings must also be maintained.
